Rengeji Temple is said to have been founded during the Kōnin era (810-824) by Kūkai, who is believed to have originated from this area. The principal image is Amida Buddha. It received the patronage of the Hachisuka clan, who became the lords of the Tokushima Domain in Awa Province, and its temple lands were also guaranteed by the Owari Tokugawa family. It is the family temple of Hachisuka Koroku, and the memorial tablets of Hachisuka Koroku and his son Iemasa are enshrined there. The Niomon gate is said to have been donated by Iemasa, and to the southwest, it is said that Hachisuka Koroku’s former residence and the Hachisuka Castle Ruins, which covered 1 hectare, were located. The main hall collapsed during the Nobi Earthquake of 1891 and was subsequently rebuilt
