This is the site of Tsushima Port, which flourished as a river port on the Tenno River, connecting Owari and Ise. It is located southeast of Tsushima Shrine . Several river ports were scattered along the Tenno River, but during the Muromachi period, other river ports became shallow due to sedimentation, making it impossible for large merchant ships to use them, so merchants began to gather at Tsushima Port. Furthermore, the Oda Danjo-chu family, including Oda Nobusada and Nobuhide, organized a self-governing system for merchants and did not impose taxes, which led to further development, and it is said to have become comparable to Sakai Port in Osaka. Nobunaga watched the Tsushima Tenno Festival from the Tenno Bridge. However, in the Edo period, when flood control works were carried out and the Tenno River was dammed, its use for river transport ceased and it gradually declined.
